| Activities, Adventures and the Best of Summer |
|
From June through August, the kids at the Ronald McDonald House – Oak Street have jam-packed days full of activities and adventures that keep them engaged, safe and spending quality time with new friends. The Summer Program offers fun, seasonal activities open to siblings, patients and other family members.
The Summer Program provides families the opportunity to participate in normal summertime activities, which without this program would be a challenge. If siblings are 5 years of age or older, they may attend without an adult. With the supervision of an adult, patients may sign up too! It provides patients who have not yet been admitted a chance to be out-and-about before a long stay in the hospital. Patients who are no longer in the hospital also enjoy going on field trips. “It’s so awesome seeing them be strong enough to be out in the sunshine playing with other kids” says Katy Daily, RMHC-UM Family Services Coordinator.
Summer Program activities include: a drama camp, strawberry picking, paddle boats, a turtle derby, rock climbing, making rockets, swimming, baseball games, bowling and a trip to Valleyfair. There is an average of 15-17 kids taking part in each activity.
A highlight of the Summer Program is Sibling Camp at Faith’s Lodge.

Quality Time at Parents’ Night In
|
|

A highlight of the Summer Program is Sibling Camp at Faith’s Lodge.
We recently hosted “Parents’ Night In,” an event we organize three times per year at the RMH – Oak Street. The evening features a romantic meal for the parents, complete with wine and candlelight while the kids have a party of their own; including either McDonald’s® Happy Meals or spaghetti slurping. With a heavy emphasis on adult conversation and a chance to sit down, relax and be served, the whole evening slows down. Wonderful food, live music and attentive service all play a part in transforming the generally bustling dining room to a cozy, tranquil atmosphere. While parents enjoyed a 3-course dinner, program staff and volunteers provided childcare in the arcade and movie theatre. Appetizers were prepared by The Cookie Connection and the entree was prepared by The Tryon Connection.

Annette Tryon of the Tryon Connection works tirelessly to make Parents’ Night In beautiful, delicious and memorable.
